The "Mentor-Mentee Skills" competition, an annual tradition organized by the School of Nursing at Etugen University, was successfully held on April 11, 2026, reaching new heights in innovation and teamwork, and successfully recognizing the outstanding future leaders of the nursing profession.

Since 2011, the School of Nursing at Etugen University has organized clinical nursing internships for second- to sixth-year students through the "Mentor-Mentee Agreement" system, pairing them with experienced nurse mentors to develop professional skills. Opening the event, Ts. Munguntsetseg, Director of the Training Policy and Coordination Office at Etugen University, delivered a speech highlighting the core value of the "Mentor-Mentee Agreement" and the vital importance of professional succession in the nursing field.

The competition was evaluated by a panel of distinguished experts from the nursing sector, including:

  • V. Davaakhuu / General Specialist of the Nursing Professional Sub-Council at the Ministry of Health, Ph.D. in Nursing, Associate Professor /
  • D. Oyoun-Erdene / Senior Specialist at the Ulaanbaatar City Health Department, Master of Education, Consultant /
  • B. Oyountsetseg / Director of the School of Nursing, Master of Education, Associate Professor /
  • O. Sarantuya & O. Sarangerel / Senior Lecturers at the School of Nursing, Masters, Associate Professors /
  • G. Shurenmyagmar, J. Ulamsaikhan, & S. Amgalan / Senior Lecturers of the Department, Masters /

Furthermore, the organizing committee for the competition was led by D. Gundevsambuu, Head of the Department of Basic Nursing, and B. Duurenzul, Head of the Department of Specialized Nursing, in close collaboration with the entire faculty members.

Competition Agenda

The participating teams tested their knowledge, practical skills, and agility across the following 7 comprehensive areas:

  1. Theoretical Knowledge: A computer-based assessment consisting of 100 test questions.
  2. Team Greeting: Showcasing professional pride and a hospital advertisement.
  3. Nursing Process: Applying the 5 steps of the nursing process based on a given clinical case study.
  4. Practical Skills Competition: A 4-station hands-on clinical procedure and infection control challenge.
  5. Drama Performance: A creative performance illustrating the core value of the "Mentor-Mentee Agreement."
  6. Emergency: Demonstrating team-based resuscitation and care during critical, life-threatening situations.
  7. Student Innovation Showcase: Presenting innovative solutions developed by intern students for real-world clinical practice.

Competition Winners

The teams that led the competition with their exceptional knowledge, practical skills, and strategic teamwork are:

  • 🥇 First Place: Bayangol District Health Center — "Nurse Power" Team
  • 🥈 Second Place: State Second Central Hospital — "Phoenix" (Galt Shuvuu) Team
  • 🥉 Third Place: Military Central Hospital — "Javkhaa" Team

During the opening ceremony, Odbayar, a student from the Medicine-509 class, performed a traditional melody on the Morin Khuur. Additionally, the School of Nursing’s dance troupe, the first-place winners of the "Grand Art Festival 2026," presented their award-winning dance performance.

Significance of the Competition

The defining highlight of this year’s "Mentor-Mentee Skills" competition was the showcase of innovative projects introduced by students into hospital settings, facilitating the sharing of best practices. Furthermore, the event served as a vital platform for mutual learning among participants, successfully elevating their professional skills to the next level.
